How do you go about getting a private registration plate?

There are many online sites where you can type in the reg you are looking for and they will search for the best match. The prices are listed too, it pays not to be too particular and you may need to search more than one site for the bargain.

You then pay the money and the plate is held on retention for a number of weeks until you are ready to apply it to your vehicle. The vehicle MUST be road legal, taxed and tested.

They can start from around £250 for simple initials...but if you want anything specific be prepared to pay in excess of a grand...

The DVLA is the place to start but by no means is it an all singing all dancing entity.....look around.

Elitereg is a good one to try.

I would start at http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/ DVLA's home page. If theres nothing there you like you will have to go to a company who sell them. These company's buy and sell as a business so prices would normally be higher than DVLA. Dont forget the 80 quid transfer fee aswell. This fee is normally included in a plate from DVLA.
