I purchased the jetski from an individual who did not know he had to register it and did not have a Missouri Title, I have the bill of sale and the registration from the last registered owners in hand. How can I get the title in my name so I can properly register the jetski without paying a lawyer hundreds of dollars? The whole jetski isn't worth that much.

You made the first mistake.
You bought a vehicle/bike/water craft without the TITLE.
Now it's going to be very fun to try to get the Title. Please take this as a learning experience and NEVER buy a vehicle/bike/or water craft without the title.
The DMV will give you so much crap because of no title. I know this because I've been through this myself.
You'd have to prove to the DMV that you've tried over your ability to contact the last registered owner.
You will have to get a bill of sale from:
1. The last registered owner to the guy you bought the boat from.
2. the Last registered owner to the guy who sold the boat to the guy who sold you the boat.
So between the Last registered owner, to the guy you bought it from, there may be another or 2 guys that have purchased the boat.
So you need a Bill of sale for each person to person.
And even if you have all that, you'd still NEED the title. Generally, if you're the registered owner and you lost the Title, you apply for a duplicate title. If you're the poor soul that is not the registered owner, it is almost impossible to apply for a "duplicate" or "lost" title, because the Vehicle isn't in your name or registration.
So to sum it up, you got kinda screwed. Sorry, but this is life, and just learn from this mistake as I have done so myself.
Never Buy a vehicle or Vessel without THE TITLE!! UNLESS YOU know the loop-holes or you WORK at the DMV and you're the Manager! Even then, you shouldn't buy a Vehicle or Vessle without the TITLE! |
