I am buying a 95 eclipse gs but it does not have a title but it does come with a bill of sale i live in montana

Don't buy it without the title. Anyone can write up a bill of sale. It means absolutely nothing without the title. If the "so called" owner of this eclipse never titled it in his name, it is not his to sell. You are asking for a huge headache, tons of paperwork, and paying for a car you won't be able to title and register without it's title. Plus, make sure the title is in the person's name you are buying it from. Example=if you are buying it from Joe Smith, make sure that Joe Smith's name is on the FRONT of the title. Don't accept a title that has Pete Jones on the front, then Joe Smith on the first assignment on the back, and Joe Smith writes your name on the second assignment. NOT LEGAL. Big hassle, Joe Smith never titled the vehicle in his name and is not his to sell.

A bill of sale just says you paid some guy for the car. It does not prove he had the right to sell it or even owned it.

A bill of sale without a title is not worth the paper it's written on. Do not buy a car without a merchantable title. Do not pay someone any money with a promise to provide you with a title later. Do not buy yourself trouble !
