How does car insurance work if you move a lot?

My friend and I are planning on becoming nomads of sorts; basically we'd be living mostly out of our van, camping, and in cheap motels... kind of like road tripping but not as a vacation, as a lifestyle.

I've been working on this plan of about 2 years or so now and have figured out just about everything down to the last detail; the only thing I'm a bit unsure about is how to handle car insurance.

Basically, what I'm trying to find out is: how does it work if you don't stay in one place for long? How do you determine what state to register in? Do you just get your insurance and a P.O. box in whatever state you're licenses are registered in and go back every month to get and pay the bill? Or is there another way of doing it?

There are people who live like this, so there has to be some possible way to make the insurance work.

Please just answer the question(s). My questions do not require your opinion on this type of lifestyle; I'm perfectly aware that this is a rather uncommon and unconventional lifestyle and that it does not fit most people's ideas of an ideal lifestyle.

Basically if you are merely traveling, basically you just keep your insurance you bought at your official home residence. Same goes for your license and title. basically

Why not just get insurance for the address your at now and just keep it there? I don't think its required that you changed it every time you move from place to place.

Even if you move around a lot you will need to have a residence somewhere.
You will have insurance off that residence.
BTW, that lifestyle isn't "planned to the last detail" you are starting with the wrong foot there.

Kyttibat, For car insurance the quickest method to get a low quote is do a auto policy comparison. Be sure to choose the same coverage levels, you can get an quick quote to compare against others. Use the same coverage area, auto make and model, mileage and driving history to make sure you get accurate comparison. To get fast auto quotes, go to http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Auto-Insurance.html and you can compare the major auto insurance companies.
