The only people who will know the true answer to your question is the DVLA. A rough guesstimate is that there are approximately 21million cars on the road. Some days I think they're all on the same road as me. In addition to the cars there are probably several million commercial vehicles, including road busting juggernauts. |

There has never been a number published as such that I know of but some 80% of UK adults hold a driving licence and 20% of the population are under 16. The 2001 census counted 58m of us so that works out as around 37m licences or so. Plus foreign trucks and tourists of course but that would probaly be less than 1m. There are some 26m cars on the road so the 37m figure looks good. |
