How many years before points drop off your driving licence?

Points don't just 'drop off' of your driving licence. You have to apply to DVLA to have them taken off. (U.K. only). Points added to your licence, other than drink driving or other serious driving offences, will be valid for 3 years (you can apply to DVLA after 4 years to have them removed.) Insurance companies will still require you to declare points/offences for 5 years.

I cannot believe the number of wrong answers.

Points stay on your licence for 11 years for Dangerous driving or Drink driving. All other offences are 4 years. This is from the date of conviction.

However although points may stay on your licence for 4 years; for totting up purposes they only count for 3 years.

You must inform your insurance company of any offences in the last 5 years.Hope that makes it clear.

As you're on a UK & Ireland site, I presume you're in the UK!

It depends on the offence, here's the link for DVLA where it's all listed :
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/motoring/dri...

Hope that helps.

Its 4 years that points stay on your licence. You have to declare them for 5 years to insurance companies though.

Depends on what the point was given for, if it's alcohol related, it can stay for ten years.

i think it depends on the points. Three years and they no longer count from the court's viewpoint, for ordinary Gatzo points, but they stay on the licence for longer than that. I think from the insurer's viewpoint you have to declare them up to five years later.

3 years for most.

It is 3 but insurance companies do ask you to show any fines/points etc dating back for 5 years.

probably depends onthe rules for your state

go to their website or the website for Driver's licenses

best of luck

dvla will usually take them off your licence after 3 years but you need to disclose them to your insurance company for 5

3 years in the UK.

If they where part of a drink driving offence the offence will remain on your licence for 10 years but the points will be dropped after 3.
