It'll be quite dear I am afraid. Your best chance is to shop around and see what's out there, getting quoted is free.

what car? engine size? shape? style? etc any details help
newer cars really arnt that much more to insure though its all about engine size modifications shape and security the value dosent have much to do with it my brother had a car almost as expensive 1.4 toyota corolla on a 52 plate and the insurance was 1400 better than most other 1.4's even though they were older and less expensive and was half the price of an 18 year old 1.6 peugeot automatic |

if you've just learned to drive why the hell would you be wanting to buy a new car?
the words more money than sense spring to mind
Get an old one for a start - you're bound to have the odd dent and scratch in it
I've found out to my shock that in an accident a car can be written off in a second...
If you really must buy a stupidly expensive car...then expect to pay a stupidly expensive price for your insurane |

between £900 and £2500 depending on the group of the car!!
insurance does not become affordable until your reach 22 and have 3 years or more experience (and I am not talking about No Claims Discount) |

as well as age ..the cost will depend on what car you own and the group it falls into ..but don't expect it to be less than £2000 |

I just had an old banger as my first car at 17, 10 Grand is too expensive, seeing as you've now joined the biggest risk group of all, and they're going to crucify you on the insurance! |

I am guessing you could save some money and be safer on the roads by completing a PASS PLUS driving course with a local instructor. It should cost around £150 for 6 hours of training, don't worry there is no test at the end of it just a certificate of completion.
The best part, you could save up to 50% on the cost of your insurance and with less chance of an accident help to achieve a no claims bonus.
Check it out with an insurance company like Academy on 0800 3166779 and use the reference ACAD2806 |

If you get comprehensive it'll cost you the price of the car, so about 10 grand. But I bet they won't even insure you.
Your best bet is to get third party only, that way it'll be cheaper.

Silly choice of first car. You should really start with an older vehicle with a small engine (below 1.3l), build up some experience and a 'no claims' record before going on to something better. A new driver below 25 years of age will pay very large premiums. A 17 year old - BIGGER STILL! Teenage drivers make the most claims and have a very high 'accident' rate! |

I recommend an online insurance quote. It's free and generally hassle free. http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Auto-Insurance.html |

A lot of crap answers to be honest. The cost of insurance depends on your age & driving experience (a new driver will be more expensive), where you live (inner cities usually much dearer than rural areas) and the car. All cars have an insurance grouping - generally smaller, less powerful cars are cheaper, but contrary to most of your answers, newer cars are generally cheaper to insure as they have better security, are safer & body parts are supplied cheaper to keep repair costs down.
There are two basic levels of insurance cover: 'Third Party, Fire & Theft' (TPF&T) will cover your car being stolen, damaged by fire or damaged in a way that is due to another driver. 'Fully Comprehensive' insurance will also cover repair costs in the event that you're at fault for damaging your car. There are other levels of cover, but they're rarely used.
As for the value of your car, I completely disagree that you should have a cheap car - people seem to have the attitude that you should buy a cheap first car & expect to have an accident or two. Complete rubbish, and buying a more expensive car probably means that you'll drive more carefully.
In summary, you may get TPF&T cover on a 1 litre Corsa for £650, but you'll pay £10,000 to insure a Porsche Boxster fully comp. |
