Each state is a bit different but as a general rule... 16 with some type of drivers ed, whether private or thru school.Otherwise 18, and in some states even at 18 you have to take a drivers ed course. |

It depends upon the state. Some southern states allow a teen to get a learner's permit when they're 15 and their jr license at 16. However, many northern states don't allow a learner's permit until the teen is 16 and a jr license at 17. In NYC it's even later. In fact, to my knowledge, teens aren't allowed to drive a car in the city until they're 18. You'd have to check the DMV in both the state and the city in which you were going to live. |

fifteen with a licensed driver, or sixteen by yourself with a valid license. at fifteen you must take a written exam from a free book on traffic laws and score 75% correct, at sixteen you must go on a brief (10-15 minute) driving exam with an instructor. make sure you completely stop at all intersections and keep in mind that they will try to snag you in at least one mistake. unless it could have caused a major accident though, it won't fail u. most states are fairly easy to pass. make sure you can do a three point turn and judge distance and park the car you take . u must of coarse provide your own vehicle and it must have all proper lighting, brakes, safety equipment etc.. be familiar with the car. they will be able to tell if you just borrowed your friend's car for an hour . |
