How to get a vehicle home when buying from a private party?

We're traveling out of state to pick up a car tommorow. Since the previous owner will take off the license plates, how do we take it home legally? I would guess go to the local dmv?

there is a space on the pink slip for the seller to sign over the car to you.
when you get home go to the dmv and give them the pink slip. they will
give you a new one from your state when you register it in your name.
and get a bill of sale from the seller. you might go to the dmv in the state
where your buying the car and they might give you a temp sticker
or travel permit to drive it out of the state. there is not really a reason for him to take the plates off. your going to get stopped no matter what
if your driving around with no plates, if for no other reason than to check

If you presently have an insured car, most of the time, your present insurance will extend to the new vehicle for a limited (30 days ?) time. To be sure ask your present insurance agent.

Most states offer out of state temporary registration tags usually good for about ten to twenty days just make sure to put insurance on it before you go and pick it up then take all the info from the current owner to the local dmv and get your temp tag!

you can get a 10 day and drive it or have it towed.

Well no tag is MUCH less against the law then placing a diffrent one on the car.

Even if it's your car and your tag (from another car) .....If they do not match it is a felony in Florida.

U-hall has tow dollies and trailers you can rent.

Or any vehicle being towed is legal without a tag.

We just drive them with a pace car behind (but don't put a tag on it)

Keep your bill of sale on you to to prove the situation.

Driving with no tag is only a $40 dollar ticket here.

The wrong tag will get you taken to jail and the car impounded .

go get the title transferred into your name and buy a temporary tag for it.
