How to go about dealing with this at dmv....?

I have a 2001 nissan sentra and the insurance expired on the 21st of March I received a letter in the mail saying I had to turn the plates in or provide proof of insurance. Today my mother added the car on her insurance policy so it will be cheaper for me, the insurance company faxed the temp insurance cards over today. Do I need to go to dmv and turn in the old plates and get new one? Or do i not need to do anything since there is coverage on the car again? any help appreciated

The same way they knew you didn't have insurance for a short period of time, they know you now have insurance. But to clear your mind just go in and show them proof of insurance and you won't have to hand in your tags.
