How will a DUI affect my insurance?

WOW! You are in big trouble. My brother got a DUI a few years ago and he was paying like $450 a month for insurance!! If its a recent thing, I would attempt to fight it in court- because with a DUI on record, you have more to worry about then your insurance rate increase!! There are a TON of companies that wont hire you (or may even fire you, if employed by one now) with a DUI on record.

The things that are going to make your insurance high are your age, the violation and the possible hike into another rate class.

Basically, if you're required to carry SR22 by your state, your insurance will have to be rewritten into a higher rate bracket, due to that alone. That will cause your insurance to go up a good deal. There are no firm numbers you can look at except that SR22 only costs about $15 per six months. It's the rate increase that is going to hurt you.

You may be able to find out if there is a forgiveness class/clause in your state. That could help you.

Wow, you're only 19 and you have a DUI on your record already. Dude, sorry to break it to you, but you're screwed. First it's a DUI and second you were drinking underage. It's a double whammy... Your insurance is going to sky rocket.

It depends. Some companies will not continue your insurance at all if you have a DUI. A DUI is a major offense, btw. The ins. co. isn't going to screw you, you've done that yourself.
The best thing you can do when the time comes is to call around and get quotes. Try driveinsurance.com

You can look at your rates to at least double for three years. The first year is the worst and it will gradually get better every year after that. The only thing you can do it pay it. Do not worry about shopping around because it will be high with everyone.

Simple answer: negatively.

Chances are after conviction you will have a suspended license for a time, and won't get it back without filing an SR22. That will probably last for 3 years. During that time you will pay a great deal.

DUM DUM....... why r u drinking and driving anyway. Instead of thinking about your insurance you should be thinking about a the life you could have taken including yours.

Don't look now but BAM your insurance will soar through the roof and could be cancelled.
Watched it happen to a guy.
Plus your 19 and not of legal drinking age yet.
Stay home and drink from now on.
You will lose your license for about 4 months probably anyway.
Classes lots of fines.

you might be excluded from having the better insurance plans, your premuims might be higher than those who dont have dui's on their records. my advice is to stop drinking and driving, just stop drinking all together if you can help it. good luck.
