How would I obtain the contact information of someone who hit my car and kept going, using only their license?

the best solution is to file a police report. let them do your job while you enjoy your life. that is what tax payer pay for. this will speed up the process.

Go directly to the police...do not pass go, do not collect $200. It might be your word against theirs, BUT there will probably be paint traces left on the offenders car, and it can't hurt to try, right?

However, you do it, if your wanting money for damage or to fix your car, you will need to file a police report about the accident. They will locate the person from the license number and check things out. Make sure in your report and to them, you mention the person hit you and left the scene, from experience, the other driver already looks bad in the police eyes for leaving the scene of an accident. Yeah, the police report will open up an investigation. A license plate is GREAT to have. They can find vehicles based on tire treads, make of the paint that gets left on your car, awhole bunch of things. So even ifthe plate is stolen, there MAY be a trace they can go by.

If they hit your car and kept going, that is known as a hit and run, which is a felony offense. I would take this to the police and make a report. The police, in turn, will use the license plate number and track down the guilty parties. Was someone else there with you when your car was hit? You may need an eye witness to back up your claim, unless there is irrefutable damage to their car as well proving they hit you. Best bet is to go to the police though.

You would take whatever information you have to your insurance company, and they would be able to trace and contact the other persons insurance on your behalf. If you have collision coverage, you would be able to start repairs now by paying only your deductible.

Let the professionals do the leg work. This is what the police are there for, and this is part of the reason that you pay insurance. As an insurance adjuster, we have access to resources that the public does not. Your insurance company will do the investigation, get images of the vehicles, basically build your case for you. Your company will even get the name of the other persons Insurance (if they have any) so that you can file a claim with them. If they do not have insurance, the other party is at fault and you have the proper coverages, this may be considered an "Uninsured or Underinsured" accident. In Texas, this deductible would only be about $250.00 (plus it does not count as an "at fault" accident that counts against your rates).

Hi,I would go to the police and get help to identify to car .The police will investigate the accident,they do not care to much for hit and runners.There should be damage on the car that hit you.The damage should line up with your damage.This way you stay out of trouble with the evil doer.Good Luck.

When I got hit I just got the license plate number and called it in to my insurance company and they handled it from there end.
