I'm thinking about applying for my provisional licence...?

I'm thinking about applying for my provisional licence...?

And on the application, it says to get a signature from a 'professional' person such as a doctor who's known you for 2 or more years. Would a dentist be allowed to do this? Thank You

The DVLA guidelines state that the person who signs your photo must;

*live in the UK
*know you personally (for at least two years)
*not be a relative

Suitable people include:

* a local business person or shopkeeper
* a librarian
* a professionally qualified person, for example, a lawyer, teacher or engineer
* a police officer
* a bank or building society officer
* a civil servant
* a minister of religion
* a magistrate
* a local councillor, MP, AM, MEP or MSP
...but the list isn't inclusive and usually you can get away with any "respectible" person who has known you for 2 years, lives in the UK and isn't a relative...

A dentist would certainly be described as "a professionally qualified person", so yes, you can ask your dentist to sign.

Be aware though, that sometimes "professional people" ask you to pay for them to do this (especially doctors!) so check first if you think your dentist might charge...if he/she does charge and you don't fancy paying for the priviledge, then you'll probably still be able to get one of the other types of suitable person on the list to sign - most people know a local business person or shopkeeper for instance.

It doesn't have to be anyone professional anymore, just someone who has known you for more that 2 year's

Yes, a dentist will be fine

think CDT has given you the best answer, I am an engineer, but don't have a degree although am a member of a professional institute, I have done similar for a passport a couple of months ago

yes mate, definately.
don't forget to double check that you have filled in the form properly, it's a pain in the *** if they send it back after two weeks because you forgot to get the back of the photo signed or something like that.

Hi, I am a driving instructor so can help. Yes a dentist would be fine. Anyone who is a professional would be fine e.g doctor, dentist, police officer, justice of the peace, judge, psychiatrist, government counsellor etc.
