Fifty dollars seems pretty steep. I have clients that are paying about $2 to $5 per month for stored/parked vehicles.
You are smart to keep coverage active. When you are not driving a vehicle for a certain length of time, you may want to consider storing your car and decreasing the amount of auto insurance coverage you carry. For example, you may decide to remove liability insurance from your policy while your car is in storage.
Many auto insurance companies look at your auto insurance history to help them determine the kind of driver you are and the risk involved in insuring you. Generally, auto insurance companies consider drivers with gaps in their auto insurance coverage as more risky to insure than drivers who have maintained their coverage.
If you have a gap in your auto insurance, or you’re planning to cancel your policy (even for a day), you could end up paying a higher auto insurance rate. Also know that lowering your level of auto insurance coverage may result in a higher premium in the future.

If you're under 25, they charge a lot for insurance and there's really no way around it. If you were actually driving it, you would be paying a lot more! You can always check out some online insurance places for a quote. Try www.progressive.com and see if there is a cheaper one. They will give you quotes for a few different companies - I've found this site very helpful.

If you have tags and registration - you are required to insure it.
If you have a driver's licenses, you are required to have insurance.
If its just parked and you are not driving it - then remove the plates and hand em back in, hand in your license and get a regular ID.

The car is parked? you never drive it? Yes you are paying WAY too much. I pay nothing for the 5 cars I have parked. I never drive them so why insure them? my home owners insurance will cover the cars if there is a fire of flood or anything like that. so if your not driving the car yes you are paying way to much. |
