I'm using my parents insurance but....?

I'm using my parents insurance but my name isn't listed on their policy, not even as an occasional driver because it'll cost too much. Of course an insurance agent will tell you that the car won't be covered if i were to drive it and get into an accident, since my name isn't listed. However, If worse comes to worse and i were to seriously get into a car accident would they cover it as a first chance or are they serious about not covering the car if it get the car totaled. Additional Details Ok now see in one of the replies, that person says that if i live in the household I am insured but hows that so when im not even listed as a driver?

If you wreck the car the insurance company will consider you an unlisted driver and by that they do not have to pay the claim and will probably cancel your parents insurance policy. They need to add you on th their policy as a driver. It would be better to pay the higher premium than to get sued by the other driver and possibly lose everything they own. Even if they don't own a house or have money in the bank or investments they can still have their wages garnished for the rest of their lives to pay for damages. |

SO you mispoke when you said you are using your parents insurance.
They are DEAD SERIOUS when they tell you they will not cover it.
Many states will revoke you drivers liscence for driving without insurance. Drive with revoked insurance you will and you could end up in jail.
Get a job (or a second one) and cough up the extra dough. Don't be so selfish and risk everything that you parents have. When people get into accidents and file lawsuits they file lawsuits against insurance companies.
When that person does not have insurance they go after the individual, if that individual is a minor they go after that minor's legal guardian.
I know this answer sounds judgemental but the bottom line is you have to take responsibility for your self. SO when you decide to take on HUGE responsibility such as driving you have to accept ALL of the responsibility that comes with it. For some that means very little if there parents are picking up the entire tab.
For most people that means paying for the car, paying for the insurance, paying for the gas, paying for the maintenance, and of course paying the deductibles if you need to file an insurance claim. |

Your parents will have to report it stolen. so run fast if you can |

the insurance contract that your parents signed stated which drivers lived in the household and the rates were based on that,
I think if you had an accident the insurance company would either deny the claim or pay it and then cancel your parents insurance for allowing an unlisted household member to drive
once you parents get cancelled then you can all pay higher rates for a few years |

The insurance company won't cover it. Claim will be denied for unlisted driver. If the accident is your fault the other party could sue you directly and your car won't be fixed and if it is the other person's fault and they don't have insurance, your car won't get repaired. If they do have insurance and it's their fault then you'll be OK. |

First, your parents need to stop dodging the rate increase and list you as a driver. Secondly, if you live with them you're an insured. Thirdly, if you drive with their permission you're insured. There are variations with policies and state-to-state but that's how insurance works in general. |
