I had an accident in my boyfriends car, I am a named driver on his policy and were fully comp. Noone else was involved, I lost control in the snow and went through a hedge, the car will probably be written off. My queston is that when we claim will my boyfriend loose his no claims bonus or me? I have 3 years and he has nearly 5? Can any one shed any light thank you.

When I left the house for work it was clear out, all the roads were nice and clear and the snow was melting, then I got down into the vilage and it started coming down really thick and fast so I pulled over phoned work to say that I wasn't coming in and that I was going to turn around in the next junction, thats when it happened, I pulled away started driving slowely down the hill and the car just went like a rocket down the shute, I tried steering out of it but it wasn't having none of it and I came a cropper! Won't be driving in the snow any time soon!

As the claim will be on his insurance claim he will lose his no claims bonus. As you were the driver you will also have to declare the accident on any insurance cover (for you in your own name or as a named driver) for a period of 5 years, which will put the premium up further. Glad you weren't hurt, but what was so important you felt you had to take the car out in the snow? |
