I was wondering if it would be an offence to drive a car without insurance after buying it as I will sort out all the insurance stuff once I get home.

What if you get in an accident in that brand new car on your way home? Total the car and there is no coverage. Brilliant!
And yes, it's illegal to drive in most states without insurance. There are actually a couple of states that don't have mandatory insurance laws. But even if you're in one of them, you still have the problem of what if you wreck the car. |

If you already have insurance on another car you are automatically insured on your new car for a short period of time (i think it's a month). Just call your insurance company as as soon as you can after buying the car. |

You can not drive without insurance. Ever. So before you bring the car home, contact your insurance agent with the information on the car and pick up an insurance card for it on the way to get it, then you will have no problems. |

If you get pulled over, or in a wreck, you will be ticketed with driving without insurance. Period. |

In the majority of states, you have to show proof of insurance (liability insurance) before you can leave the lot with the car.
Driving a car without insurance is against the law. So to answer your question, yes it's an offense. You have to have the insurance in place BEFORE you get behind the wheel. |

I'm pretty sure that there is a 30-day time limit to get insurance on a new car. When i was 16 my mom bought me a car and the next day, i totaled it. like you, we had yet to get insurance. The car was still covered though...i don't know how. I think that you'll be okay if you get pulled over.
