I SENT A LETTER BUT FORGOT TO put a STAMP on it? what will happen? I put my address on it at the back...?

you're gonna get a visit from the Stamp squad - they are the Commandos from the post office that visit stamp dodgers like you

and then they're gonna send a card to who you sent it to and get them to pay £1.60 and visit the delivery office to collect it only to find out you sent em some junk mail

you really work for Fed Ex dont you trying to put the post office outa bizness

Bexs
The recipient will receive a card to say there is a letter waiting at the post depot - when they go and collect it they pay the postage plus a charge of about £1. If the recipient does not collect it - it will be returned to you as you have put your address on.

starlet108
They will try to deliver it but charge the recipient around £1.50 excess xxx

flossie
it may get there and the recepient will have to pay a charge for it

The post office will charge the recipient for the postage. My first job was working in a mail room and I sent out over 40 letters with out postage, the worst thing was I was sending bad news! ooops

Nick
Your looking at prison i reckon!...

mistickle17
Either they will have to pay the postage when it arrives at its destination or it will be sent back to you.

It will either be returned to you or the post office will make the person who you sent it pay. If the later is the case they may have to go and collect it from the post office.

usually the item is surcharged, that is it is sent second class with a handling charge and the recipient is given the opportunity to pay for it if they refuse it should be returned to you, good luck,

Not Ecky Boy
the recipient will be expected to pay, if they do not pay you will get it back.

The recipient will be expected to pay quite a lot more than the price of the stamp would have been.

instead of delivering the letter the postman or woman will put a card through your door advising you that they are holding a letter for you at the sorting office but that the postage has not been paid and you will be expected to pay the postage. if you don't accept it or bother collecting it then the letter will be returned to sender. occassionally you get the odd postie who isn't a jobsworthy and who will post it through the letter box anyway.

Either it will be delivered and the person receiving the letter will have to pay the charges, or they will return it!! It won't be discared of or anything like that. Well it shouldn't because the letter is not deemed to be property of the post office, so they are not allowed to not send it!

breezinabout
It will be delivered but the recipient will be charged for the correct postage (the stamp you omitted) and a surcharge of around £1.00.
However, if the recipient refuses to pay, it will get returned to you, eventually.

silverbandit_1
the post office will either deliver a postcard with the value in stamps to be put on it by the precipitant so they can then get it delivered or they will send it back to you doing the same so you then have to re post it

ca_surveyor
Well this is a deep deep pile you have worked your way into....

one of three things will happen

1) The letter will come back to you covered with little 'insufficient postage' rubber stamps on it. You will have to put the proper postage on it and then remail it.; or

2) Your letter will be delivered to the recipient with a 'Postage Due' collection attached. They may not be given the letter until they pony up the $.39. Our government is like that.... Spend $5 to collect forty sents. (Only in America)

3) In the middle of the night, without warning, the Postage Due unit of the Stamp Police will kick down your front door and drag you and your family, screaming and yelling out into the cold rain or snow. Your house will be sold at auction to cover the missing stamp and you and your family will be pressed into servitude until the postage (and minor related collection costs amounting to just a little over $6 million) are all worked off. And that is the good news.

Hmmmmmm... which do you think will happen???

DAVID T
They will charge the person you sent it 2.

eventually it will be returned to you

I think the above is all theoretically true; about recipient charging or return to sender, but in my experience the post office can't be bothered with all that, and they just deliver it

it should be returned to sender

Either it will get to where you sent it and they will have to pay a charge or it will get back to you in a month or so. Good luck, hope it does not get lost!

The post office will more than likely deliver it back to you.

Stick your hand inside the letterbox and try and steal it back lol.....actually don't you might get stuck...boy, that would be embaressing now, wouldn't it?

It will simply be returned to you by the Post Office stating Insufficient Postage. This may take 7 to 10 days for you to receive it back.

If it is a payment for a bill, I would suggest that you place a "Stopped Payment" on that check just to be safe, and re-issue another check.

it will be retured to you

Royal Mail will deliver it, and ask the receiver to pay for the stamp plus a admin charge of about a quid.

Depends on the country u live in :) because i remember i received a letter with too little stamps, so i had to pay for it to receive it, otherwise it would have been returned...
it was in Lithuania :)
But if to think from a business point of view, it should be delivered, because then you can charge the receiver more than a sender...
of course, if u sent it to a person, not company :)
hope to hear the ending of the story :)

It should come back to you "postage due".

Starla_C
It will be returned to you for postage.

smiley
it will be returned to you or they will contact you about the charge if you hadnt put your address on it it would have been left in the mailing room
