I bought a car from a dealership with a lien on the title from the previous owner?

My temp tag is almost expired and i called the dealership to ask where my title was. They said the title had a state lien on it from the previous owner. I have already had the car for almost a month now, and have made a payment on it and spent money on various other things, like tires and a new battery and stuff. Can dealerships generally clear this up? They are sendin me a dealer tag to put on the car instead of another temp tag. They are a pretty well known and trusted dealer to.

Thing is I do not want to return the car at all cost because i have spent so much money on it already and it was hard for me to find this car for the price i paid for it. Thanks for your help

I wouldn't worry too much if the dealer is reputable. We have insurance for just this calamity, and you will get a clear title soon. Good luck.

You are not responsible for the lien. Worse comes to worse, you can return the car. The dealer, by law, has a certain time limit to give you the title, otherwise, you can return the car.

The previous owner is responsible for clearing all liens on the title.
