the car is old and needs some work i am trying to sell car now have buyers but don`t have the title and have insurance and stuff on car but what do i do

If you do not have a title, then you do not own that car & cannot legally sell it to anyone.
You can attempt to get a bonded title for the vehicle now. But if anything comes up on the VIN search, (lien or car reported stolen by legal owners) then you are going to be asked some serious questions as to how & why you now have that can in your possession- especially if it comes back as stolen.
If the VIN search comes back clean, then once you go through all of the red tape, you will be issued a new title & then you can sell it.
If the car comes back with a lien or stolen- then you will have to turn the car over to the lien holder, police or legal owner- all without any compensation to you. |

Why did you wait 9 months to think about getting the title. That is the first thing they should give you when you pay for a car. If he wasn't a citizen of the U.S. I would say he probably didn't have one for it and you should not have bought it from him. You can call the DMV and ask if there is a way to get one. Other than that, you are out of luck. |

If you never got the title from him, you haven't been able to title it yourself, therefore, you cannot sell it. You don't have the right to sell it, since you never got the title.
Best thing to do, take the VIN down to the DMV, see about how to get a bonded title on this - BUT, if it's stolen or a repo, you'll have to turn it over to the rightful owner.
Most of the time, if someone "sells" you a car without giving you the title, it's not theirs to sell. Sorry. |

DMV and a VIN search is your best bet.
Who knows!! you might find a car that was "LOST" for a few years.. haha..
seriously though..

UGH, you got scammed. It might not have even been his car. It could have been hot when you bought it. You have to go through legal now. Call the insurance. |

The first thing you need to do is get the vin number and do a lost or stolen title search,after that you can go to your local DMV and have a copy made if there are no problem with the car.Maybe your insurance company can help you. |
