I bought a car from a private seller, i need to know if i can use my plates from my other car which has experied tags but is registered in my name until i get to the DMV on Monday.

Depends on which state you're in.
Here in AL, plates stay with the vehicle owner not the vehicle.

No, you can't transfer plates from one car to another without going through the DMV. Even with a private sale you need to get temporary tags. Check the laws in your area. |

Yes, but if you get pulled over you will get ticketed for the improper plates, In Iowa we just put a piece of paper in the rear window affixed with the words "IN TRANSIT" on it.. this will suffice till you get the real plates from the dmv..Most states have different laws about this.. some have temporary tags like Ohio.That you can purchase for under 10 bucks for 30days.
You cannot go to jail for improper display of plates or fictitious tags. When in doubt call your local DMV office or visit their web site or call the local county sheriffs' office |

DO NOT put your old plates on your new car until you get to the DMV and officially transfer them. If the local Law Enforcement agents find you driving with the wrong plates on your car, you could just get a slap on the wrist, but if they think you're up tpo something illegal, they could arrest you and confiscate the car! |

No. If you're pulled over, your tabs are expired and you will get ticketed. My suggestion to you is to either wait until you can get to the DMV to transfer the plates or have the car towed home. |

no the plates have to be registered to the car you are driving. it's illegal to switch plates until you register them to the car. Plus the tags are expired .. that will get you pulled over quick. You can drive the car until Monday in the person's name still .. that is not illegal as long as you change the name and info and register it all to u as soon as you can :) |

No, you have to go to the dmv to switch the plates, before you can start driving with them. Not only do you not have the new car registered yet, but the plates are expired! You shouldn't be using them on any car. |

No you can't. The only plates that can be transferred are personalized ones.
