Well yes if it is a state law. In some states you are required to keep it insured even if it is not driven.
Here in Nevada it is the law and if you let the insurance laps you can be fined up to 250 . Check with your local DMV to see if you need insurance on it even if it is sitting and not driven. |

That depends on where you store it. If it's in your own garage, your homeowners policy may cover it against theft and fire. If you store it outside, or in a storage facility, keep it covered. Check with your agent, they may offer a reduced rate for your car while it's in storage, especially if its a classic or collectible. |

If it's financed, you are required to keep insurance coverage on it at all times. Also, If you cancel your insurance, you may have a hard time getting coverage again in the spring. Insurance companies don't like to see lapses in coverage, no matter the reason. |

It depends on the state. California, for example, offers non-operational vehicle registration, which means they will not cancel your registration just because you don't have insurance, provided you send them a statement of non-operation. In other states, they require insurance if the car is in your possession. |

back when I was in high school. I had a car. and a truck. When winter came around I would drive my truck back then. My mom would call the insurance man back then to change cars. then store the car behind the garage. then in the spring call the insurance man back to go back to change vehicles again. ( just store it GOOD !!!) you dont need 2 insurance policies. DONT park the un insured car in a street. or public area. Keep it in your garare. or in your back yard w/ your battery taken out !!! good luck . |

If you park it on the street you do but if it's in your garage it would be advisable to put fire and theft on it.It' very cheap. It is also possible that your home owners insurance would cover it but check with your broker to be sure. |

Call up your insurance to at least lower the rates. If it's an old car, cut the insurance off. |

If nothing else, you need to at least insure against theft. Otherwise, if it gets stolen, you're screwed. |
