I don't think my odemeter reading is right as it differs from mot to mot?

sounds like it could be OK... it has just gone round the clock.... after it reaches 99999 it goes back to 00000

up to 2000 it had done 42, 000 miles
in the next four years it did 55,000 miles or about 14,000 a year

in the next year it did 15,000 miles
then 6,000 miles
then 19,000 miles

if the car was used constantly, and the MOT was done at the same time of year (ie not declared SORN for any period), then it sounds like they may have made an error in recording the 2006 mileage - maybe transposed 2 digits or somesuch

It just sounds like a 5 figure display that's gone past 99999 and started again.

Unless you did a very high mileage which took it over 100,000. In this case it would show the figures you state.

Not at all - it's just that it reached 99999 and then started counting up from 0 again

Between 2000 and 2004 the car did 54596 miles
between 2004 and 2005 it did 14729 miles
2005 and 2006 it did 6310 miles
and 2006 and 2007 19464 miles

So last year it did quite a lot more but it's not been tampered with by the looks

It's been round the clock, I assume that your car has a five figure odometer, if so, it's done a minimum of one hundred and thirty-seven thousand, eight hundred and two miles, that's if it's only gone round the clock once!

It could simply be that it doesn't have enough digits to read anything higher than 99,999. If that is the case, the reading is correct - you just have to remember that there's a missing 1 on the front (actual miles in 2005 were 112,028)
Alternatively, the speedometer could have failed and been replaced, which would zero the odometer.

I doubt it has been deliberately tampered with to falsify the miles, as the wear on the car would be far too high to make the 2005 reading believable.

Sounds odd, could be faulty or tampering or your car is being used without your knowledge!

Why not compare its readings with a small portable GPS?

Then you can see if the device itself is faulty.

assuming you have owned the vehicle since 2000.... why would you confess to tampering with your own ode?...

if you have owned the vehicle since 2000, it sounds faulty.
if not, unfortunately if any buyer of the vehicle notices, it can devalue the vehicle significantly.
