I forgot to tell my insurance company about my 3 points- can i do it now and not get in trouble?

Hi,

I had 3 points for speeding about 15 months ago but completely forgot to tell my insurance company about this.

I have just changed addresses and when the new licence came through i remembered I hadn't told them.

There is no claim to make or anything like that so does anyone know if i'll get into any trouble if i tell them about in now? It was an honest mistake. Has anyone ever done this before? What happened?

Thanks

Tell them straight away, apologise for the mistake and explain it to them. You might have to pay a bit more on your premium but at least you won't have to worry.

Better now than when you've had an accident.

tell them now it would be amistake not to because if you do not tell them and you have an accident your insurance could be null and void

The chance is you won't be in trouble but you may have to pay a little xtra but if you don't tell them and they find out they Will invalidate any claim u make

rusnelson
The sooner the better or else your insurance could be invalid.

Tell them, any excuse they will not pay if you are unfortunate to have to claim. Will probably cost you another £25 a year

do it now BEFORE you get in to trouble...could be classed as not having insurance till you do..

just ring and tell them. You premium may be slightly more.

I would definitely tell the insurance company. They will only amend the premium from the last renewal date (i.e the date after you got the conviction). It is very unlikely that they will cancel the policy and with most insurers the additional premium for a single speeding conviction ranges from nothing to a small amount.

I am 99% certain you won't get into trouble. (I mean imagine how many drivers there are with speeding conviction and a good percentage won't tell their insurers)

Tell them now and what they will do is add more money on to your bill. Three points is not that big a deal and most insurance companies allow for the occasional ticket.
Just be careful not to get another and make sure you do tell them because the people that said your policy could be void are right. Oh and they will check your motor vehicle report so they will find out. Better they find out from you.

poor o
you renewed your insurance when it last lapsed without informing them about any changes , 3 points... your insurance is void ... you are not insured... they will cancel your policy.. and you cannot get insured for 5 years after a company cancels or refuses to insure you for not disclosing information.. its like fraud... good luck to you would nt wanta be you... by the way they don t do "honest mistakes"

They will probably find out when they check with the state, you might let your agent know so they don't catch them off guard.

Good Luck,

well is up to you,but the early the better

You must tell them. If you don`t they may not pay out if you make a claim.
They will be more interested in taking some more money from you than you getting into trouble.

they will soon find out ,and then cancel your policy

I don't have any first-hand knowledge, but I'd contact them ASAP and let them know. Most likely, they will bill you an extra premium back-dated to when the policy started. It's going to hurt, but you might as well do it so you don't have to worry.

John Q
Hi this is not a problem. Just write a letter to inform the insurer of the speeding offence. 99.9% of companies will not charge any additional premium. Conditional at the renewal date to update the company with material information. If in doubt what is material tell them anyway.

Depends what the 3 points were for, some insurance companies are bothered until it hits 6 points and above.

Ive done the some thing, but then i knew the lightlyhood of me having an accident in the insured year was next to zero, so i kept the mistake to myself. But i wouldnt recomend it to everyone

no.. what happens is that companies randomly run license checks and if your points are on there they'll show up
