I got a ticket on this car which says current dmv tabs not displayed. It is a used car I bought off a friend a couple of days ago. What does this mean and how do I solve it?

You got what is called a "fixer ticket" meaning that once the violation is corrected, and the appropriate fee ($10.00) is paid to the court then everything will be fine. In your case, the violation is not having the current tags on your vehicle (section 4000a of the vehicle code book). Two things may have happened when you bought the vehicle, one is that the vehicle is currently registered but the seller never placed the year sticker or the sticker might have been received but got lost or stolen. Secondly, the registration is expired so you need to pay the renewal fees due. In both cases, you need to go to the DMV and fillout DMV Form 156. If the record shows that the registration is good, then you pay a Duplicate Sticker fee of $18.00. If the registration is expired, the DMV will tell you how much is due plus any late penalty.You will receive the sticker/tags the same day you go to the DMV. Once you have affixed the tags on your vehicle plates, have a DMV representative or examiner sign-off on your ticket, attach a copy of your registration card and mail them to the court with the $10.00 check or money order. |

it means that your tabs on your license plate aren't current. Go to the dmv and talk to them about it. The tabs are the left and right stickers on the license plate. They will tell you what to do, I doubt that it will cost money. Not sure just go and ask them |

So you didn't get a ticket for expired tags? You got a ticket for not having a current tag on the plate?
The registration is probably paid and the officer can tell that by his computer in his police car. Your friend forgot to put them on the plate.
If it's lost, you can get a duplicate sticker (tag, tab whatever) by going to the DMV or AAA Auto Club and filling out a form REG 156 and fee is $18. |
