The person who hit you is responsible to pay, not your Mom's insurance. What is wrong with you taking a car out without insurance??? What if it would have been you hitting someone??? It isn't fair to all of us who do pay our insurance and it will screw your life up and maybe your parents lives as well! STAY OFF THE ROAD TIL YOU GET INSURANCE YOU IDIOT!!!

If you are an uninsured driver, the police will issue you a citation and when you do get insurance, your rates will be higher than normal. So hopefully no police report was filed.

If the other person finds out you are an uninsured driver, their insurance company will sue you (and most likely win) for all damages to his car. So you best not call the other driver.

Sounds like you've learned a tough lesson. And, you now have to pay for all the repairs to Mom's car.

Well, first off you did a very foolish thing in driving a car you aren't insured for. If you had killed someone, say goodbye to your parents' house, because they would have ended up losing it. On the other hand, if they allow you to drive the car then it's as much their fault as yours.

However........If you were hit from behind, it's hard to see how you could be at fault, unless you were doing something really stupid. The person who hits someone else from behind is always more responsible, because they (ostensibly) have the chance to stop the car.

If you have the name of the other person, you should definitely contact him and tell him you want his insurance to pay the damages. My guess is he will be willing to write you a check for the repairs to keep his insurance company from finding out, as a way to keep his rates from going up. If he tells you he doesn't want to pay you OR to go through his insurance, then your next step is to take him to small-claims court to try to sue him for the money.

So what you need to do is take the car to a repair shop and get an estimate on how much it will cost to repair it. Then call the guy and give him the amount of the estimate, and ask him if he's willing to pay. If not, then tell him you want his insurance to pay it. If he still says no (chances are he won't), then sue him.

HOWEVER...........If, due to some factor you haven't explained here, YOU are actually the one at fault in the accident, then my advice to you would be to figure out a way to pay for this yourself. There's no point in going to court if you're just going to lose.

This whole thing should teach you a lesson about driving a car without insurance. Be glad it's just some minor damage.

GET A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT AND SUBMIT IT TO THE INSURANCE OF THE PERSON WHO HIT YOU, YOU MAY NEED TO CONTACT AN ATOURNEY ALSO
