I got pulled over and I recieved 2 tickets. One for a suspended license and No proof of insurance. Does any?

I have obtained a laywer but I am unsure what I have to do know about the insurance aspect... Do I need to go get an SR22? Can someone please give me some advice. Thanks.

Since you were driving on a suspended license, an SR22 is the last thing you need to worry about for now, that will come into play when or if you get your license reinstated. After you are notified that you can get your license back, an SR22 will be required for a period of at least three years, in most states. Nearly all insurance agencies offer SR22 coverage, and your rate will vary, so it's important to shop around to get a decent rate. You will provide the proof of insurance/SR22 at the time you go into the DMV to be reinstated. If your current license expires before your suspension is up, you will be required to take the written/driving test, before a new license will be issued. Depending on why you were suspended in the first place will determine if a lawyer is needed, or simply a waste of money. Only you know if you really need a lawyer, oftentimes you don't, so think about what you can take care of on your own, before retaining a lawyer to represent you.

if you had insurance, contact them and get a letter stating policy and applicable dates. if you do not have insurance, you will need to pay the fine and serve any community service or jail time required.

i do not think getting an sr-22 will help in that what insurance company would write a policy for a suspended license?

do you actually think a lawyer will help in this situation?

do the crime pay the time.

I'm sure the court will tell you what you need to do. Why do you need insurance if your license is suspended? You aren't supposed to be driving.

If you obtained a lawyer, would it not be prudent to -- i don't know -- talk to the lawyer?

same boat came story here. yes you will have to carry and sr22 for a full year if dont pay the insurance every month with the sr22 on it your license will be suspended even further.

I'm not sure where you live....but in my state (tx) If you get a no insurance ticket, you have to pay the ticket, Then you have to pay a surcharge fee, it's $260 every year for three years. You can do a payment plan but if you make a late payment or do not pay, your license is automatically suspended, then you have to pay it in full, they will no longer accept payment arrangements. If you are to get 2 no insurance tickets, It is the same punishment and an sr-22 for 3 years.

no you dont need a sr22 -

you need about 6 months jail time
and a few thousand in fines.

How would you feel if you would have killed a couple people while driving illegally?

The judge will tell you. LIkely, you're going to have to get an SR22 before your license can be reinstated.

To answer Scott, proof of insurance is needed because insurance goes with vehicles, not with drivers. Someone else (spouse, parent, friend, whatever) could conceivably drive the vehicle, and it would need insurance to be legal on the road. The registered owner is, of course, responsible for anything and everything to do with the vehicle.

Now to answer the original question. You have retained an attorney (although I don't know why) and any and all questions regrading your situation should be directed to your attorney. By retaining one, you gave up the right to ask here. He's being paid to answer your questions.

Added: also, in many states it doesn't matter if you actually HAD insurance or not, the law is clear that you must CARRY proof of insurance with you when you are driving. In those states it doesn't matter if you really had it, you didn't have proof of it which is required, and the ticket sticks.

The easiest way to fight this ticket, if you had insurance at the time the ticket was issued, is to get a letter from your insurance company.

Have the letter written on their letterhead and have it indicate you policy # and the vin # of the vehicle you were driving and have them state that your insurance binder/policy was valid at the time of the ticket. Ask them to include when the insurance coverage began and was due to end.

Do NOT get a letter from the insurance broker, traffic courts will not accept this as proof as insurance, it must be from the insurance company itself.
