I had a rear end accident. I am at fault. Should I claim it on my insurance?

I had a rear end accident. I am at fault. Should I claim it on my insurance?

I rear ended a parked car a two weeks ago. I assessed the damage to the bumper that I hit. It was a fiberglass bumper and the tab holding on to it had come off and there was a small crack as well. I figured the damage was so small, we could handle this out of our insurances. They called me back a few days later, they took it to shop ($400). I agreed. The plan was they would call and meet at the shop to pay the repairs. They haven't not call me back. I finally got in contact with them two weeks later. They tell me that it's their only car, so they have not fixed it yet. And now to add to the total amount, they state that additional damages have occurred after the fact. The area that was scratched, now have bubbles coming out of it, which occurred after the accident. This sounds a little sketchy - I am willing to pay for the damages but now I feel like there is a bit of scamming. What should I do? Claim insurance(if i still can)?

I wouldn't claim it, unless your company won't up your rates.

Get them to provide you with two written estimates and pay the lesser of the two. Don't wait for them to present a bill, pay the estimate and move on. It could be they don't have the spare cash to get the repair until you've paid. Since it was your fault, it would be both kind and reasonable to provide the funds to fix the damage.

you need to report it to your insurance company and let them handle it. they are not going to pay out for something that is bogus. you should have called the police and done a report(lesson learned for the future) when people agree to settle without insurance and its not their fault, ususally they want something they are not entitled to. your insurance company will send out an adjuster to appraise the damage and will handle all the details for you. call them NOW

ohhh big scam they are not taking care of this car.Best way is to not report it to your insurance now,why these people will milk that insurance all they can best way.GO WITH THEM,and go to your body shop of your choice not theirs just in case they are in collaboration with them, and ask them for a written estimate (it should be free in your state depends but check).Same thing happened to my moms he had her minivan she put the car in reverse and hit a honda civic on the front as she was going on reverse.$900 for the repair it was only a little bit of chipped paint, but she had her whole car painted a diffrent color. Then my moms insurace rates went 200% up dont do it theres always an alternative..hope this helps.however you do what you think its necessary this is only a suggestion.

Claim it on your insurance. The insurance appraiser will go out and get pictures of the car and contact the people's so-called body shop and get the true total for damages. It sounds like to me, that the people think since you are willing to pay $400 in cash , tht you will pay more to keep your insurance from being involved. Don't let them scam you like that. Even if your premium does go up, you will be getting off cheaper than the people are going to let you get off by paying cash.

You still can put it in on your insurance. Check with your agent - most states have a threshhold of damage that must be met, before the accident is even surchargable.

You're uncomfortable with where this is going . . . so yes, I'd report it. I'm a bit uncomfortable with the bubbling part, too. I'd also worry about someone ELSE coming along and hitting them, and blaming THAT on you, also - because clearly these people are in no hurry to fix this car.

They might NEVER fix it . . .take your $400, and keep hitting you up for more and more and more damages, as they don't repair, and things get worse.

I would DEFIANTLY claim it!!! Because then they'll just keep adding stuff for u to fix. You should have taken pics and gotten a police report. I kn ow you can still claim it. (at least mine insurance does). Good luck and hope it's settled soon.

IT WAS YOUR FAULT SO REPORT IT TO YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY, IT WILL INCREASE YOUR RATES BUT AT THE SAME TIME YOU WILL BE PROTECTED IN THE EVENT THAT THE OTHER PERSONS TRIES AND SUES YOU FOR MORE THAT IT WAS WORTH.
