I had a small accident.?

I had a small collision (the two cars just touched) and we both stopped at the red lights and had argument whilst in the car at the red lights.There was a very minor scratch which cant be seen at all. It was not my fault at all.

As nothing happened i did not take notice of it and did not even take her car registration number. she (the other driver) reported me to the police. The police have sent me the notice and a form to fill for failing to stop and to report an accident.

Please advice as what should i do as I am really stressed.

If there was damage to a car then you have to exchange details or report it to the police as soon as is practicable within 24 hours maximum.
Who's fault it is is irrelevant.
If the scratch cannot be seen how do you know it is there??? It must be or you would not have mentioned it.
You have been sent a notice of intended prosecution and so they will try to prosecute you for the offence.
If the other person can prove damage was done you are likely to be found guilty if you contest it - you could say in court after pleading not guilty that no damage occurred and the onus would be on the other party and the police to prove it. If they do or have witnesses then you will get a stiffer fine and points than you would if you had pleaded guilty.
There are a lot of ways this could go if you decide to contest it but if ultimately guilty then you should prepare to get between 5 and 8 points and a fine determined by your ability to pay one.

Please remember that the offence is failing to stop and exchange details and the matter of who's fault the crash was means nothing and would not be taken into account - you have clearly broken a law.

Just tell them exactly what happened, and wait to see what happens. You ought to have pulled over and, if she asked, provided your name and address etc. It could be argued that you did stop, since you were stationary at the lights. It could also be argued that you didn't provide her the opportunity to obtain your details.

The law says you must stop, and provide your registration number, name and address (and those of the keeper of the car if it isn't yours) to anyone with a reason to demand them. If you don't do this you must report to the police as soon as practicable and in any case within 24 hours.

Whether the police (and then the CPS) bother to do anything about a minor knock is up to them . . .

i think that u should tell the polices the whole story. and watever the policeman chooses will be right, unless he's going against the law. so this is my opinion, because then ur telling the truth, and going the right direction i ur life.

It depends on your local laws. Where I live you don't have to file a report if the total damage is under $600. Just fill out the papers and tell your side. Chances are that will be all you hear from them.

What a *****. Take pictures I guess, call the police explain your side of the story to them, and get witnesses if you had any with you at the time.
