where I work.I paid off the 525 dollar ticket then I get a letter from the texas dps saying I owe 104.dollars for a surcharge or my license will get suspended.I feel if you get a ticket pay it,it should be done with.What state do you live in and do they charge you a surcharge after paying the ticket? If feels like I getting tried and fined twice.Is it unconstitutional?Double jeopardy? Feeling violated I have an ID but no license for two years.

The surcharge is completely separate of any fines.
Basically what Texas is doing is putting it right to you that your license is only a privilege, not a right.
Just as an insurance company will charge you more to keep your insurance if you have a lot of accidents, the state of Texas does for driver's licenses. You are a risk, so you are charged more to keep your license.
Double jeopardy- no. This has nothing to do with your fine.
Unconstitutional- no. There is no state or federal law that gives you the right to get your license or to drive. Driving is not a right- it is a privilege. Too many people forget that & states like Texas have developed and implemented a way to remind them of their errors in thinking that they have a right to drive. |

I have NO SYMPATHY for people like YOU... I got hit by an UNINSURED DRIVER with NO LICENSE and had to pay the $500 deductible to get my car fixed... total cost was over $2000. PAY THE TICKET and GROW UP.. in case YOU didn't notice.. IT WAS YOUR FAULT IN THE FIRST PLACE... |

You have a very simple choice. Either pay the $104.00 or have your license suspended. Instead of trying to find a way to skirt the system, you may want to consider cleaning up your act. punctuation ? |

It doesn't matter what you think is fair. Surcharges are common for many offenses. Pay it and get over it, or lose your license. |

Well, if you have no license, then you shouldn't be driving. Be glad they didn't put you in jail. In Indiana they can send you to jail for driving without a license. They also impound your car. You then have to pay the ticket for driving without a license,and pay to get your car out of impound. You pay a fee for everyday it is in impound plus the initial fee of impounding it. |
