I have 1,000,000.00 in car insurance coverage. Can I be sued beyond this amount?

You can be sued for any amount under the sun but they can't take your house, Besides, If you transfer your house now it wouldn't be valid anyway. I think $1,000,000.00 coverage is sufficient. Most of the time, the award, if any is not more than your coverage anyway. Your insurance company will represent you for free and these suits are almost always settled out of court for much less than the amount of the suit If it is as serious as you infer and you are as worried as you seem, Ask to speak with your insurance company's lawyer for advice.

yes you can be sued beyond that amount i forgot what you have to do to protect your house talk to a good attorney they can tell you my g/f rear ended an old couple only a few thousand to fix the cars they sued for over 750 k

If your insurance company does a good job of adjusting the claim, it should never get to court. If it does, your company will defend you. Chances of a judgement anywhere near your limits are very small, and transferring the house probably wouldn't be worth the work and expense.

you'll get sued....most likely settle outta court.....damages are less than one tenth of your coverage amount, so relax. Even if you killed someone, they wouldn't get anywhere near one million.

The other party usually sues you to what you are worth. Your limit of insurance should be enough to cover the other party. Let your insurance adjuster work for you, that is what they are there for. If you are worried about losing your home then yes, I would transfer it over before it hits the fan. Sorry for my language. I worked in an agency and have seen to many bad things happen. Somehow they or their insurance adjuster finds out how much you are worth and then goes for that amount. But the claims adjuster is your representative to make a deal or offer them less. Hope this helps.

Yes you can be sued for an amount that far exceeds your liability limit. Whether or not the judge awards such an amount is a different story altogether, and unfortunately without further details about the severity of the accident and who the other person is and what injuries they suffered no one here can say what the chances they'll get that amount.
There's no point attempting to transfer your house at this point. If you were to successfully do it in the next 24 hours the other party's lawyer would request the judge hearing the case to reverse the sale because it would be pretty obvious that you were trying to protect your assets.

If the claim is not your fault your insurance company will defend you in court. Most times these claims never make it that far. Claims usually get settled between the 2 insurance companies or if they can not agree they go to arbitation first.

So, relax. You are lucky you have good insurance. Most people don't. You are smart.

you should have enough insurance, it is to late to transfer the house unless it is a true sale. See a lawyer he can tell you want you can do

It wouldn't matter -- the judge will over rule the transfer of the property because you obviously did it to avoid seizure in a pending court case. I really doubt you will need over a million bucks -- was the other drive a pro athlete and lose an arm or something?
