I know I can drive for up to a year with my USA license in the UK, but what about things like insurance? How would I be added on to insurance if I have a USA license? Would having a USA license make me exempt from having to be insured on a car as I am not in the household? Thanks

To norman: Actually laws allow me to drive any type transmission car. My uncle's car is an automatic anyway.

It actually depends on what insurance your uncle has on his car! Best thing is for your uncle to have you added to his insurance for a month. |

IF you are going to drive another person's car for a month, your uncle needs to obtain a rider to his insurance policy to include you in the insurance. If you are under age 25, you have a problem. |

Poster Norman here is wrong. You may drive in the UK with your USA license. I just got back from driving a rental car in the UK on my USA license. Your USA license will be recognized. You can also get an International license but it isn't necessary |

I have bad news for you. When in England your uncle's car is
manual drive you cannot drive it because in England if you pass your test on an automatic car you only can drive an automatic because really you are not relay a driver as yet you are only a starer not a driver. Only when you becomes a driver is when you can operate a vehicle with a clutch, gars, gas, mirrors, brakes and hand signal. Then that's when you are a driver, so your uncle will have to get a steara car for you my man. |
