Hi I had the same your best bet in to go to a site that searches loads of companys on your behalf to be honest I went with budget but try a site like supermarket.com etc

your best bet is someone like gocompare.com or confused.com. i've cut my premiums loads since i used either site. i'd still expect it to be dear but when you've had the conviction on your licence for 5 years you dont need to inform your insurance company so happy times next year. although it will stay on your licence for 11 years in total.

have you had no insurance since your ban? I've been re-insured for a year tomorrow and mine has gone down massively this year, I've gone from a broker to direct line. I found when first getting insured again I could make mine cheaper by amount of voluntary excess I said i would pay.

Try Ryburn Insurance in Hebden Bridge and ask for Senga. Or go on line and lie. Tell them your a doctor and see how cheep it is then.

Isn't the 'slate wiped clean' after 3 years? I'd use a comparison like Money Supermarket or GoCompare to get a better idea.

The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and welcome drivers with "less than perfect" driving records and specialize in youthful operators!

Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won't be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!

3) Remember if you take a high excess to reduce the premium you would have to find a lot of money pretty quickly to get your car back after an accident.

Personally I am amazed Direct Line would take anyone with a DR10 less than 5 years ago.
