Yes, the CORRECT answer it's a flat $17 a year. It keeps your vehicles information current.

If you simply let the registration expire, when you did go to re-register it you would be charged penalties and interest on all the time it was not registered which would be dramatically more than the $17 non-op permit costs.

Yes, you pay to nonop the vehicle.

I don't know if it is a flat fee, but I would guess it would range depending on the vehicle, but we did one truck which the registration was like 150 or so, but we paid 15 to have it registered as a non-op.

And you don't have to register it as a non-operational vehicle, but if you plan on keeping it you should. If you don't register it, or non-op it then the registration fees and fines just keep adding up. So say, in 5 years you want to register it, or sell it, there would be massive amounts of money owed on it. If you non-op it every year, you would just pay the new registration fee when you want to register it again.

Basically you have to register your vehicle each year, working or not. So instead of making people pay the full registration for a non-working or non-used vehicle, they let you register it as a non-opperational vehicle for a much lesser amount.

*** It's funny that I got my registration for my vehicle today, the Non-op fee is $24, not the $17 flat fee amount that has been posted by others. I don't know what the CORRECT answer is regarding the price, or how they come up with the fee but I paid $15 for a truck a few years ago, and my registration on my car says $24 for non-op. Maybe the dmv says it's a flat fee of $17, but they want $24 for my car. Go figure.

ok.. if the car is parked on the roadway, "any streets" you have to have the car insured and regged..well In Calif.
you can only non op a car if it is off the street and ,.. In CAlif there is a 14.00 fee for non-oping..when you reg your vehicle.
if you get pulled over driving a non op car, they will take your licence and impound the vehicle..(happened to me when I was young.)big bucks then!!

Yeah, its like a $25 or $50 charge for 1 year when the registration is due.
