I have a question, this lady hit my parked car last night.......................

& when she realized what happened she got out of her car & shrugged her shoulders as if she was confused. i took her info down & she said "my boyfriend works at a dealer ship & he does body work. so he can fix ur car 4 free!" I told her, i have a 2008 honda accord, y would i let any one work on my car? that would mess up my warranty. so i gave her benefit of the doubt & tried 2 wait to talk 2 her 2 see what she wanted 2 do about paying me 2 get my car fixed at MY dealership. well she never answered her phone when i called her. so i immediately called her ins company, filed a claim, spoke 2 an adjuster & scheduled an appt 2 have my car appraised & have them cut me a check. beacuse with certain ins companies, if u don't report the accident immediately, they don't have 2 except the claim. now her boyfriend is calling me telling me not 2 go through the ins. co & that he can fix my car 4 free. was i wrong 4 calling the ins.co? should i let anyone work on my car? what should i do?

You have the absolute right to have your vehicle repaired at the facility of your choice! There are many "body men" out there that I would not trust to wash the tires on any vehicle that I own.

Seeing as you have a very new car, you should not only have the repair done to your satisfaction, you should also be compensated for the loss of value of the car. As car that is hit and repaired is worth less on the market than a car that has not been damaged!

You are also entitled to a rental car when yours is in the shop.

If it was me I would give the boyfriend a choice. He can pay for the damages, diminished value, and rental car out of his pocket, or you are going to go through the insurance!

Her boyfriend just wants to avoid having her insurance go up, which is what happens when you go to her insuarance. Don't trust her, she sounds shady. Just do your thing through the insurance company that way you know it will be done properly and it won't screw up your car and voind your own car's warranty.

Absolutly not. Go through with the insurance claim. If her boyfriend does crappy work and something goes wrong down the line you can't do anything about it and like you said, it will void your warranty.

You were right to call your insurance company -- did you also file a police report? You should whenever there's an accident. Don't trust anyone who offers to fix your car after an accident; it never ends well.

This is not a case of just getting a qualified worker to do the job, but there may be some legal questions here for her. Obviously she has a bad driving record, otherwise why would not object to her insurance company knowing about it.

You did the right thing, and stick with your decision.

If it's going to mess up your warrantee, I wouldn't let anyone touch my car. She hit your car - her problem, not yours. That's why she has insurance. Not to mention, what kind of guarantee are you going to get from her boyfriend?

No, it kinda sounds shady that she wants you to go to her boyfriend. Besides, you already have the claim filed. Doesn't it still count against her even if you cancel it? Did you file a police report? If you didn't, I would call and get one filed, just in case her insurance company comes back and asks for the report number.

If at all possible, I would try to take it to your dealership first to find out how much it will cost. Ask if the insurance company will work with your dealership. If not, and they have to cut you a check, at least you walk in informed and know how much you have to walk away with.

Yeah you did the right thing your car is brand new and you can't afford to have your warranty voided as you said for the convenience of this lady. For all you know her boyfriend could go and do a bad job and then you would be out of luck. If you haven't filed a police report yet do it just for records you never know when you'll need it. Honda should be the only one to service your car since you paid for the warranty and I'm almost positive if you let an outside party work on your automobile their not liable for any damage or keeping your warranty. So continue as you were. Good luck
