I have justed canceled my car insurance?

Just what to know is there anything else i need to do like tell someone that am not using it any more because i cant pay for it (its cheaper on the bus lol) but i still have it taxed till december can i get money back of that or something??

i just don't have a clue what to do or if i even need to do anything i just don't want to get a fine because i haven't re taxed my car or took it for its m.o.t and stuff like that

ahhh well thats its all locked up in my garage
i just wasnt sure if i have to call the DVLA up and tell them am not useing it any more

Hi,

You really need to declare your car off the road by completing a SORN declaration (statuary off road notice). You can do this by either going onto the DVLA website, phoning them or getting the form from the post office.

They wont back date it so the sooner you do it the more you can get back from the unused car tax.

As long as the car is off the road you would not need to MOT it but you most certainly need to declare it SORN with the DVLA.

As long as you have the car OFF the road you are legal for everything. You can SORN your car and reclaim any of the unused Full months of tax back. If you do it tomorrow you may be Lucky and get 3 month (if you meant the end of December). Once again if the car is off the road the Mot won't have to be renewed

You can get a tax disc refund for any WHOLE months that are left - so get going to a main Post Office and be in time for the 30th Sept. You must not keep the vehicle on a public highway without a tax disc though.

You don't need to tell anyone else you have stopped driving - it's a free country YIPEE.

you can clain any road tax back for every full month, so if you hurry before the end of september, you will get oct, nov and dec back, then you sign a sorn declaration, to say that it is off the road, but it has to be off the public road on a drive or in a garage

If it is still taxed you can get a refund from the 1st October PROVIDING that DVLA get the tax disc returned to them BEFORE that date.

Was it wise to cancel your insurance? If anything happens to the car you won't be insured. If it's in a garage you should have reduced cover to Fire & Theft only.

As you still have the car and it's off road, you need to SORN it (Statutory off road notice) Pick them up from a crown post office and send it in to our good friends at the DVLA.

You don't have to call the DMV just DON'T DRIVE if you get caught driving you will have to go to court and pay fines. You may even get the vehicle taken away from you.

Sounds like you still have the car. If that is true, then you still may need the insurance, whether you drive it or not. Say for example a friend is looking it over and for whatever reason the brake gets released and it rolls over him. How do you pay for the injuries? If you are getting rid of the insurance, then either get rid of the car or make it completely inoperable -"dead storage."

You should be able to get a prorated amount of money back. As far as if you need to tell someone ... I think that might depend on what state you are in. Insurance companies will let the dmv know you canceled your insurance and you wont be able to register your car without it. Of course if you get caught driving and you don't have it - that's a ticket (in my state at least)
