i was involved in an accident where i was driving a car that wasnt mine. i have liability insurance. what i want to know is whether my insurance will still cover the damages to the other vehicle.

you need to read over your policy real well if it covers you while driving another persons vehicle you,ll be alright with it,if not then you wont be covered unless their policy covers you,good luck on it. |

It's the car thats insured, not the driver.
The car owners insurance should cover it, at least thats the way it works in Illinois.
Now he has to explain to his ins. co. why he let someone else drive the car. |

That would actually depend on the policy you have and what clauses are in it. You can have a clause that will cover you no matter what car you are driving, but that is usually only on a comprehensive full coverage policy.
In most cases liability only covers the other car involved if you are driving your car. |

absolutely not. You dont pay for first party (meaning yoru vehicle) coverage.. so why would they cover another vehicle you were driving?
Insurance follows the vehicle, not the driver anyways. Do they have collision insurance? They should go through their policy if they do.
If they dont have collision ... or insurance at all... your policy would normally come into affect.. but since you dont have first party.... there wont be any coverage. |

No. Insurance goes with vehicles, not with drivers. If you were driving with the owners permission, his insurance will cover you. |

Comes down to wording in the policies (yours and the car owners you were driving). I have just liability but I am covered in any car I drive. No one under 25 can drive either of my vehicles though. The only true way to know is read the policies or contact the insurance agents for you and your friend. The person that let you drive their car will be responsible if neither of the insurances cover. |

Okay some questions: was a report made? Was it your fault? If it was your fault, the insurance company will fix the other car but not yours. If it wasn't your fault and it was theirs, their insurance should cover the damages/medical incurred by you/your vehicle. Please call your agent |
