I'm assuming you're from the UK, due to the btinternet address.
If your photocard and paper counterpart have been lost or stolen and none of the details on your licence have changed, you can apply for a duplicate licence by telephone using a credit or debit card. The fee for a duplicate licence is £19.00. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) accepts Visa, Eurocard, Mastercard, Solo, Electron and Maestro. To use this service ring 0870 240 0009, Monday to Friday 8.00 am - 8.30 pm or Saturday 8.00 am - 5.30 pm.
Other ways at the direct.gov.uk website below. |

you need to inform the dvla and the police . they will issue you with a ref. no. in case you get stopped then just show your ref. no.
until you receive your new licence.
why would you go about having all your documents in your wallet with you anyway? |

You can't drive without a drivers license. Just go to your local DMV and they will issue a Temporary permit til you get the real thing in the mail. |

Technically, as long as you have been issued a legal drivers' licence, it is not illegal to drive if you do not have it on your person. If a policeman stops you, you will get a fine, but if you go to court and demonstrate that you were legally licenced at the time the fine was issued, it will be dropped entirely. Happened to a friend of mine.
As far as getting a new one, that should be pretty straightforward: just head to the nearest department of licensing. There's probably several dozen listed in the blue pages of your phone book. You'll probably need to bring some documents to prove who you are again like a social security card, a passport, birth certificate, and so on. You'll pay a minor charge and they'll print you up a new one - no test or anything. I have to get new ones all the time because I move a lot (technically, if your address changes you're supposed to get it re-issued... usually within a couple weeks).
Hope that helps! |

Yes, you can continue to drive until you get a replacement, however you should go to the DMV ASAP and tell them you need a replacement.
They will give you what's called an interim license (it's a piece of paper w/ your info on it) to use until your replacement arrives. |

The penalty for driving without a licence depends on the state. If you have a licence that is lost, you probably can talk your way out of it.
Driving without a license — Misdemeanor, when.
Except as expressly exempted by this chapter, it is a misdemeanor for a person to drive any motor vehicle upon a highway in this state without a valid driver's license issued to Washington residents under this chapter. This section does not apply if at the time of the stop the person is not in violation of RCW 46.20.342(1) or *46.20.420 and has in his or her possession an expired driver's license or other valid identifying documentation under RCW 46.20.035. A violation of this section is a lesser included offense within the offenses described in RCW 46.20.342(1) or *46.20.420. |

In England you have 7 days to provide your documents at your local police station but if you're pulled over they can check with the DVLA database to see whether you have a license, tax, insurance and MOT anyway. Send off for a replacement but don't worry too much about it. It's the same form you use to apply for a new one.. think it's a D5 or some rubbish like that..
or check out www.DVLA.gov.uk and that'll tell you which form to fill out. |

Wow, my toilet would never be able to flush my wallet & all the documents it contains. Hmmmm.
Anyway, you would go to motor vehicle & apply for a new liscense. No big deal, they're used to it. |

Go to the local licensure office. I think it would be okay to drive yourself there, as you DO have a valid licensure. They can pull up the info and issue you a paper or temporary license which is good until the hard copy arrives in the mail.
But at least you did not lose it or have it stolen. I had identity theft earlier this year, what a HASSLE! |

I'm assuming you're in the United States. In the event you get stopped, just tell them you've lost your license and are on the way to get a new one. They will ask you full name and date of birth, with that information they can find out that you do have a good license. Continue your trip to the local Department of Motor vehicles and tell them your full name and date of birth, and they will look up your license on their computers, take your picture and issue you a license on the spot. It helps if you bring in your insurance card and registration to prove who you are. |

Just go to the DMV and they will print out a new one of course you'll have to pay for it and if u get pulled over they can tell if u have a valid driver's license from your social security number. If they are a real jack@$$ they can give you a ticket but most of the time they will let it slide. |

I wouldn't want to get caught. about the only place I'd drive to would be the DMV, and they can give you a temporary one |
