you can do it online without your documents as your car should be on the MID database, |

if you have time you can tax your car online - the DVLA will have a record that the car is insured and has a valid MOT - if not then you need to contact your insurer for a copy cover note |

if you do it online, the DVLA will check your details from the insurance database............ then there's no need for bits of paper |

Ring DVLA and in some cases you can go to there offices and sort it. They should be able to view your insurance.
Otherwise as the other have said , ring your insurers for a copy of your documents otherwise it cannot be taxed |

tax it on line, all your details will be in the data base, its a real surprise how easy it is to do, as its a government agency i thought it would be an over complicated pain to use but its not. |

The only way you can do it is to call your insurance company and get them to send you another one in the post. It will cost you approx £25 to £30 depending on your insurer, but you won't be able to tax it at the post office unless you get one.
Failing that, you can get your tax disc on the DVLA site and they can check automatically that your car is insured through their computers. I would however, still get your insurance documentation as you never know when you may need it.

You'll have to wait for new documents. You NEED this before you can tax it. If your insurance is with a bank or a company, go into the branch and ask them to get a copy of your documents faxed from head office. I worked in a bank and we used to do this all the time. If you can't do that, you'll have to wait for new documents to be sent. They may be able to send them next day delivery if you pay the charge. |
