my car was a red vaxaull corsa M reg (1994) very excellent condition one OAP as a previous owner it had done 95,000 miles and had 11 months mot on it i valued it with the insurers for £500 even tho i think its worth more! and i was covered for 3rd party, fire n theft! so and ideas as to how much i will get?

you will only get what it s worth book price, good sites to check how much it is worth are which, what car,or auto trader put your details in about car and they will tell you what its worth, |

Well,if you have insured it for £500 then that is surely the maximum you will get. If damage to the car exceeds this - they will write it off and just give you £500. That's my understanding anyway. |

A lot less than you think it`s worth. They will offer you bugger all and it`s up to you to whether you accept or "haggle". It can be a long long fight to get a sensible amount, just don`t hold your breath as it`s likely that the most you`ll get is £500 as that is what you valued it at , and it`s more probable that it will be a lot less ! |

They take the initial price from a car guide eg, Parkers/Kellys.
They will then check the car over, and check for damage, and if there is any damage not caused by the theft, they will reduce the price.
For example, I wrote off my last car. Front end was demolished. The insurance inspector checked the car over, and found some bits of rust around the rear arches, and a small dent in the boot door, not caused by the accident.
For that he took £100 off the value, as they work out what the car would have sold for, before the incident. |

The maximum value that you can receive will be £500.00 less the theft excess on the policy (which will be at least £100).
If the insurance company do not offer you this amount you should try and find adverts for similar vehicles in the trade press. You should also send receipts done for work to improve the vehicle (not just to keep it in a roadwirthy condition)
You should also bear in mind that, unless you have a protected no claims bonus, your bonus will be reduced or lost - which will affect future insurance quotes.
