I have to drive to Belfast airport without car tax but I can't buy tax in NI because it's an English car?

you can do it online then your car will be taxed ,so at the worst if you get pulled up you will only get into trouble for not displaying the tax disc.

As a UK-registered car is only legal for use in other EU countries (e.g. Republic of Ireland) if it is legal for use the the UK, you cannot legally drive your UK-registered car in the Republic of Ireland if your UK road tax has expired. Your insurance is probably invalidated also.

if you are only temporarily in the ROI, you must have the car registered to a UK address somewhere. Your solution is to get the car taxed, and the tax sent to that address, then forwarded to you.

As the tax doesn't expire in the middle of the month, this hasn't just happened to you this week. You should have sorted this all out before the tax expired, and before you got yourself into this fix.

Also, as your car has now been untaxed, there is probably a fine waiting for you for not renewing it on time or declaring SORN.

it really whats been said before, if you have the renewal or have access to it then, you could do it online, with credit card, it will be with you shortly, albeit youll have a n issue with post over the xmas period.

But there is no simple reason to offer, when you drive back into the UK mainland, the CCTV system called Talon will pick yu up at the ferry port, its the ANPR system, originally used to keep an eye on car coming and going in the old days for terroists, its been updated to watch the movement of cars in and out of the UK. If you picked up on mainland then your car could be siezed as part of the DVLA program.

ring DVLA asap and ask, or visit a NI DVLA, they will sort it out, i rang them just a while ago, as long as you have Insurance and the V5, you will be fine.

You can get your car tax on line now i have been told but you do need the proper documents

On a practical note if you drive into any manger airport your number number plate will be scanned by the security cameras the number recognition thing, so if you are not a hundred percent legal do not drive to the airport

Cant understand why they wont tax in north as they say they own Northern Ireland, but then again they wont accept Northern Ireland sterling in UK

You have no excuse for not having tax,
but drive to Belfast anyway chances are
you won't get caught. But if your leaving it
in the airport car park that could be risky.
When did your tax expire because you have two weeks after
the expiry date to tax your car. So maybe
use that as an excuse. I also think that
if your not taxed your insurance becomes
invalid. Theres no way of doing it legally
unless it is taxed. Take a chance or a bus..........................

You need to find an alternative method to get to the airport.
Train, bus, taxi, etc.

One method you can sometimes use is to book a MOT test near the airport and get a lift from there.

You can drive to an MOT appointment with an untaxed vehicle, but you must leave the vehicle off the road at the test centre.

If you have got your registration tax form for your car with you, you can pay for this on line and with in 7 days you should receive your tax disc.
