I have to go to court for a ticket, it's not my fault though...?

You MUST bring all documents and info to PROVE that everyone is insured and the policy is in effect. Court has to see it to cancel out the violation. If you go to court without all the proof of insurance, you are wasting time. Please be polite--say as little as possible and say you regret not knowing what was required and that you learned a valuable lesson. Dress in a suit and respect everyone connected to the court. They are only doing their job--no one is there to attack you personally. NOW--if they give a fine --be prepared to pay it--bring a check with you. Around here--even if you have insurance--not having proof IN THE CAR is 450 dollars. I think a well dressed person, with all the documents, and speaking like an educated person--the judge will probably make it a minimum fine or no fine at all--I wish you luck--and please take vehicle ownership seriously--it is up to you to have the documents and drive like a mature adult.

As the cosigner on your car, she agreed to keep insurance on any vehicle she owns and drives. If she didn't have insurance on her car, it will, and did, affect you. Yes, they can, and obviously did, suspend your registration because of her failure to follow through on her promise.

If you want out of the ticket, she will have to show proof of insurance, or be removed as co-signer and someone else put it that complies with the rules. Same thing applies to you getting registration.

How do you figure it's NOT your fault. You were the one driving without current registration.

I would seek the help of an attorney. You are dealing with something that seems to be really confusing.

Several states have laws regarding carrying proof of insurance...which is what you may have a ticket for. Going to court sometimes helps, otherwise you just pay the ticket.

Does your girlfriend have insurance on another car? With my insurance company I have one policy for my vehicle, but I'm insured no matter what car I'm driving. Something to look into.

the law says that you need proof of insurance in your car, it never says that you actually have to have real insurance.

usually the judge will let you off easy if you actually have insurance, where I live that ticket is like $1400, and I have never seen it stick when you just forgot to bring proof. judges are usually not evil.

i suggest you take it to the court and tell them that the co signer dosent drive the car that you do he or she might dismiss the insurance violation but the registration will probably still be there if you are able to renew it then they will just charge yo ulike ten dollars for court fees as they say if your not able to re new it then just plead guilty they will charge you like 150

When you get pulled over you have to be able to produce proof of insurance and registration. The officer does not care about the rest of your story. You are lucky the vehicle did not get impounded.

depending on the state you live in, i believe it would because you in good faith believed you had complied with the law by having full coverage insurance, only mistake was not having current card, be sure and have that with you, also you might want to talk to a lawyer, most will do a consult for free and this way you could get another opinion. because somehow I just can't believe dept. motor vehicles able to suspend registration because cosigner didn't have insurance, my dad once cosigned for a car but he never had insurance on said vehicle, only I did.
get a signed statement that has been certified from girlfriend that she doesn't drive truck only cosigned for it, that with you to court. along with all your other documents,

documentation is very important!
