I heard the weirdst thing about car insurance and red cars?

It is a load of bull. It is an old wives tale that just won't die. The color of a car has Absolutely nothing to do with it's premium. When is the last time you have ever heard of an insurance company even asking what color a car was ?

It is not weird, it is just plain false, unless the 2 cars you are comparing are a red Corvette and a blue K-Car!

Colour has nothing to do with insurance rates at all, and when you get an estimate you aren't even asked the colour.

This patently false information seems to stick like glue to the information highway. It was false before you were born, and is still false, but your mother has probably believed it as long as she has driven cars, because it is likely what she was told many years ago.

Note that someone said Green cars are dearer? Those are the Brits.
Green was the British racing color so all boy racesr would buy green cars they'd drive like the morons that they were and they crashed them and so in Britain they started saying that green was unlucky and some ever went as far as to say that it cost more to insure.
In some cases that might have been true for the reasons above mentioned.
Red might apply where you live, (Red Ferraris??) but in the end, when getting insurance they don't care what the color is.
One thing i'll say: red is a color that doesn't last too well in the sun. They get real faded after a year or so.

You used the word MUM so i guess your not from America.Here you don't pay based on the color of the car,but Red cars do seem to draw police attention,based on the number of red cars I see pulled over for speeding.That could be due to the age of people who buy red cars,young people tend to drive faster than older people.Assuming all I said is true,red cars could have higher insurance rates because their drivers get more speeding tickets.By the way I drive a red mazda 3,

Thats not true...I have heard that befor from someone but its false. now some colors you will get pulled over more than others.

It's a load of Bull. Insurance is rated dependent on the type of vehicle and the driver. The color of the vehicle has nothing to do with insurance rating; I think, your mum just does not like the color of red, or, she just does not like you in the color of red.

Actually, GREEN cars have the higher claim status. Red is fine!

Depends on both your state/location and the insurance company that you were with. Some use generic risk calculations that just take in data such as age group (which can be location specific or not), car make/model data (or just type such as sedan), and other companies go to extremes to be very specific as far as to check colors, options, etc. Most likely, I believe, this day and age they don't care. I know my insurer doesn't require pictures (even for full coverage) and never asks the color at all.
