You are only at fault to the car in front of you. The car you knocked should keep a safe distance in his front, so he'll be answerable to the car infront of him.

Chris
You are responsible for the rear damage to the vehicle you hit, and part of the front if you caused it to again hit the vehicle in front of it. No way around that. Just hope no conflict arises and that the other vehicles don't claim you started the whole chain reaction.

Some people here don't remember the basics of driver ed. You hit the car in front of you. That is 100% your fault, period, no ifs, ands or buts. If he then hit the car in front of him, he was stopped improperly. Remember the lesson where they told you stop at least far enough back you can see the rear tires of the car in front of you touching the road? The guy you hit didn't do that, so he shares in the fault for that one. So you are 100% at fault for one, and possibly 50% at fault for the other. As far as you go "The Mullet", I wager I have been driving longer than you have been alive. If you go past a million miles and are still alive and kicking as I am, come back and see me. My brother was injured in an accident where the car behind him was pushed violently into him. He was pushed forward, and did not hit the vehicle in front. Any guesses why? Read the manual for driver ed. If you can see the tires of the vehicle touch the road in front of you, you are far less likely to be pushed into the vehicle in front of you, and that is simple physics. Read the other posters, and you will realize I am not the only one in the world that has learned this.

you pay for the car you hit,he pays for the car he hit & everyones insurance company fights

Did everybody but me understand that?

Dr Zoidberg
If you hit someone from the rear, it's Fail to Control Speed. Guess who's at fault?

Sorry, but yes.

Unless he backed into you, it's your fault. You were driving too close to stop or were not paying attention or you would have had an escape route.

yes, it appears that you are at fault. I hope you have good insurance.

Yes. It happened to me.

let me guess this right, you were the last vehicle in a row and you struck the middle car that had already struck the car in front, or the middle car then struck the car after you struck it...hmmmm yep you are at fault, for failure to control speed to avoid a collision and possibly following to closely. Slow down, add distance and use good judgement. This accident would have just got you between 3 and 5 points on your license.

garry.mullen
NO absolutely definitely not, you hit the car in front, end as far as you are concerned.
The car that you hit was too close to the car in front of it,that's why it got hit.
granted the middle car's insurance co will try to blame you & recoup costs from you/your insurance but if you are with a big co (no names) they will fight your corner.
But still be prepared for a long drawn out claim
Incidentally unlike r-t said above you won't get points, hell it was an ACCIDENT,anyway police even attend, unless some1 is/was injured.
Good luck

Yes.....your car hit the car in front of you causing that car to hit the one in front of it. You have to pay for both.

The Mullet
Yes it is your fault and they can even sue you if there is any injury to them. and fred you're an idiot, just cause i can see the tires doens't mean you can't get pushed into him. You must not understand the concept of physics, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

YES its your fault fix the two car`s

Yes of course. Think like what would have happened if you wouldn't hit the car in front of you? simple. The whole accident is because of you. It doesn't matter how many cars involved.

AH HA
Not your fault, because it could be he is staying behind an unsafe distant from the other car.

The vehicle that initiated the contact is at fault, for it caused the other car to hit the one in front of it. You caused the chain of events............your at fault.

jablarney
YES. It is absolutely YOUR fault. If you hit someone from behind, insurance will automatically find you responsible (same thing happened to me, I got hit from behind and I ran into the car in front). I was also a good distance from the person in front of me, but I got really hard and slid into the person in front of me. No way for me to avoid that. It's your fault since if you didn't hit the car, they wouldn't have bashed into the person in front of them. It doesn't matter if they were close or not. They wouldn't have hit them if you didnt smash into them from behind.
