I hit someone with my car and we both don't have collision on our insurance do I have to pay him?

He did not file a police report and he says the damage comes up to $1000.00 I do not believe him because my car is barely scratched but would I still have to pay him? He didn't file a police report and we both don't have collision on our insurance.. Thanks for all the help you can give in advance!

I backed into him.. I was a bit under the influence at the time but wasnt noticiable but he did not file a police report and it has been a week since the accident.

You don't have collision, but you have liability insurance? Let you insurance pay for the damages to his car.

collision is only for the damage on your car. liability is for the damage to the other party if your at fault. in my state anything over $1,000 damage requires a p accident report.

I would negotiate with the other party, and if it doesn't work go report the accident to the police. and let your insurance companys work it out.

It would be entirely reasonable to ask for a copy of the estimate he is basing this on. You may also want to insist on another estimate from a reputable body shop. You are responsible for fixing the damage you caused, but not for any pre-existing damage.

Your property damage part of your policy should pay for his damages - you don't have to.

And it's hardly ANYTHING to come up with $1,000 in damage, not to mention the rental car. File the claim with your policy.

While you do not have collision cover on your policy, you should have liability cover which pays for injuries/damage to other people and/or property. Since you hit him, you are liable for the damage you caused. You should turn this over to your insurance company to handle as he may claim bodily injury at some point in the future.r

if there's been any amount of time since the accident he will have a hard time proving anything unless you gave him something in writing or there are witnesses. your liability insurance will cover his damages in any case. today it doesn't take much to be a $1000 accident. i had one last year lost the front bumper, grill, headlight assm, and some trim. $2800. by the way is some states you have to report an accident that does over $1000 damages or personal injury. you might want to check. your ins. agent would know
