I just bought a car taxed until the end of September but it's Disabled Class tax. How do I change it...?

You have effectively purchased the car without a legal excise licence.

The DVLA won't simply change the tax because disabled tax discs are normally exempt payment, if you use the disc you will in effect driving with out tax, disabled tax discs are only to be used for or on behalf of a disabled driver or passenger to whom the disc has been issued to, the previous owner should have returned the disc to the DVLA when they sold the car.

You need to apply for a new tax disc paying the required payment and at the same time apply for the car to be registered back for private use.

I was in this position last year. I had to go to the nearest DVLA office to change it. The Post Office said they couldn't do it. You aren't supposed to be running on the diabled tax, as far as I know but can do to get to the DVLA officeI don't know if you can do it online. It is straight forward for normal car tax, in fact, it is very easy.

You need to go to the Local DVLA office and change the vehicle class and get a new VEL (Excise Licence) The present disc should have been surrendered by previous owner, no doubt the counter clerk will take it from you. You are breaking the law if you drive the vehicle on the road, you risk the chance of the vehicle being impounded if caught in a road side check.You are effectively driving without a current VEL.

Hi, you can only change the taxation class of the vehicle when you relicence. You need to go to your local DVLA office, complete form V10 and take your V5C, MOT and insurance cert. They will be able to tax the vehicle under the correct taxation class and will send the V5C to Swansea in order from them to send you a new one. You should tear off and keep the V5C/2 (green slip) of the registration document until your new one comes in the post. You should not drive the vehicle until you have the correct tax disc and the disabled one should be returned to the DVLA.

The person who sold you the car should not have given you the tax disc. It is their reponsibility to return it to DVLA.

You need to ensure that the previous owner has changed the vehicle taxation class when they send the registration document to DVLA. The piece of the document that you keep is used to tax the car.

you need to send the log book back with the taxation part ticked and sdp put in instead of disabled, ideally if you have a dvlc office near you, you can do it over the counter, you need money for new tax disc, insurance , mot, and log book, fill in change of taxation of vehicle form and fill in form for new tax, go sit at the counter and produce documents , and they will do all the relevant form filling and issue you with new tax disc, if you live in kent dvlc office is in maidstone, it's called queen ann house

in the northeast we've a place called eagle star house in gosforth..we can change the tax class there...it takes about 1 hour...hope this helps.

The registration document includes a section about changing the registration class (I think it's section 7, but I don't have one in front of me). Fill it in and send it off to Swansea. When they eventually decide to do some work, they'll send you a new registration document and a new form for taxing the car. Strictly speaking, your car isn't taxed for an able-bodied person to drive it, but DVLA being on strike is probably a reasonable defence.

I have read the website and it seems to suggest that if you are not using it for the collection of medicine or prescriptions, then the owner has to then pay the normal rate, so get your MOT and Insurance, go to the post office and tax it

If their website says you can only change at renewal, I guess (and I'm no Einstein) that means you wait until the end of September and then change it when you renew. They're not going to advise that if it's illegal are they!!

If the previous owner hasn't sent the disc back in, it's perfectly legal until it expires.
