Also, I'm going to plead not guilty....is there anything I could say to possibly get out of this? I told the cop I didn't see the sign, but he knew I lived in the area and that I should have known it was there! I may try and say that my passenger distracted me....any advice? Thank you.

My son got one last year,. For "drifting" through a stop sign. Right by our house too. His insurance did not go up for that. It did go up for a ticket he got months after. He knows this because when he rates went up, he called and asked why. They had all the information. It was the speeding ticket. They told him that. The stop sign citation had no affect on it. I live about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA. Oh,. and P.S. you can always try fighting a ticket. I have a friend thats a state cop,. and theres always a 50/50 chance the officer won't show up and then the charges are dismissed. You lose nothing trying to fight it. Good Luck! |

In PA, your first ticket ever is a freebie. So if this is the first ever, your rates won't go up. If you've had a prior moving violation, it will. |

You say you live in the area, so you should definitely have known about the sign; I doubt that will get you off. Whether the ticket will affect your premium depends on the company. Most insurers don't routinely check your record due to the cost--$15 to $25 a pop--unless you've had claims, but they will check at some point and find the ticket. |
