I just got my license at 17. Can i legally borrow my moms car tomorrow if i'm not on the insurance yet?

I will be getting my own car soon but i want to drive by myself tomorrow. If i got stopped by the police can i just say it's my parent's car and insurance and i'm borrowing the car since i'm under 18?

As a 17 year old driver in California you have a "provisional" license that restricts you from driving late at night (11:00 pm to 5:00 am), and having ANY of your friends under 20 years old in the car with you for the first 12 months unless your parents or a licensed driver over 25 is in the car with you. Violating these conditions will be a bigger problem for you than the insurance problem.

No. You need to be added to the policy as an additional driver because I'm assuming you live with your mom. EVERY licensed driver in the house hold must be listed on the policy or else the company might deny your claim if you were involved in an accident.

depends if your listed under their insurance. If not and you had a wreck, insurance wouldn't pay. But no laws would be broken

Not unless you're covered under your parent's insurance. They could probably add you to their policy with a phone call.

Sure, you can; just be sure you know where the insurance ID card and registration are. And call the agent/company and get added as a listed driver; insurance companies don't like surprises!
