I just got my license today i dont have insurance but im borrowing my moms car can i drive it or is it illegal?

All cars on the road have to be insured in some way.
Meaning she would have to have a minimal of liability and that would include you, say you do get into a fender bender; it would cover the other persons car, but not your moms.
Now if she has full coverage it would cover whom ever you hit and your moms car.
Now there are other policies that manipulate who's covered and who's not.
But like I said, she would have to have a minimal liability coverage to have it on the road, and that would cover anyone hit driving her car, but wouldn't cover damage to her car.

if your not on the policy or shes hasn't got any driver can drive it then no you wont be legal but if you decide to risk it and drive the car just think that if you kill or seriously injure someone you will have to pay them or their relatives compensation for the rest of your life as you wont have insurance to pay it for you

It's illegal to drive without insurance, and if you are not a named driver on your moms ins. then yes it's illegal....

If you live in her household you must be listed as a driver. She should can the ins. company and add you on her policy.

It may depend on the state you live in, but if your name isn't on the card, chances are, your not covered.

In Georgia, driving without insurance is something that they can arrest you for, but usually will not unless there is some sort of other major offense. If your lucky enough not to get arrested, they will issue a citation ($145) and tow the vehicle. Then you have a mandatory court date, and you are responsible for the bill from the tow company. -- Even if you prove a mistake, and the charge is dropped, your still out a tow bill, the vehicle for 3 days, and the fine is only reduced, not dismissed.

Of course, all this can be avoided by a call to the insurance company to add your name to the account, a credit card (maybe--it may be billed on the next payment) and a fax or e-mail from the company for temporary proof, until the new card comes in the mail.

The choice is yours.

Depends on the state and the coverage. In NY the insurance is attached to the car, not the driver, and most people get policies that cover the car while being driven by other drivers, whether or not those drivers have any insurance of their own. Check your mom's policy.

Technically, you are driving without insurance. Since you were not covered under her policy, the insurance company could deny any claims.

i believe you can drive it. But if you get a fender bender or something else, it can't get fixed because your not on the policy. it would have to come out of your own pocket to pay for it.
