Because I have only been a named driver on another car for 4 years now and havn't owned my own car.
Is this the same with all car insurance places?

Yes.
You lose all no claims bonuses if you haven't had your own insurance for three years.
This is standard. |

yes, I think they only allow you to carry your NCB for a year then it's lost if you not insured in your own right, you'll have to start again I;m afraid, sorry |

Some firms do offer no claims bonus for named drivers but most don't. Have you tried getting a quote from the same insurer as the other car, they may be willing to do a deal. |

Some insurers will match the no claims bonus that your partner has if you have been a named driver on their policy. Norwich Union are one of them, which I always find very competitive anyway.

One companies do allow no claims bonuses to be built up by a named driver i think Direct Line but obviously this is no good for you now. You could give it a try though you have nothing to lose |

Companies like Direct line allow you to build up no claims as a named driver but they will only honour it if you take out your own policy with them not another company. Yet another way for them to get you by the short and curlys |

You haven't as such lost your no claims as didn't have any in the first place. Only the policyholder can collect a no claims bonus not his named drivers. |
